Job Description

The role begins with a three week voluntary probationary period, during which the candidate's skills, reliability, contribution and overall suitability for the development team will be assessed. Successful completion of the probationary period may lead to an offer of a paid position with Virexa Studios as well as the payment for the previous 3 weeks voluntary work. The exact terms of any subsequent paid position will be confirmed separately.

About the Role

Appley/ Virexa Studios is working on an open-world horror survival game being developed for Roblox. The game focuses on exploration, survival, crafting, progression and base development within a large, immersive open world. Players will explore the environment, gather resources, craft equipment, develop and expand their base, unlock new items and abilities, and prepare themselves to survive increasingly dangerous threats. During the day, players can explore the world, collect resources, discover locations and develop their equipment and base. As night falls, the dangers of the world become significantly more threatening, requiring players to prepare, defend themselves and survive until morning. The game aims to create a realistic and immersive survival experience, combining open-world exploration with horror, progression, crafting and base-building systems. The overall experience takes inspiration from modern open-world survival games while being designed specifically for the Roblox platform.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will contribute to the ongoing development of an openworld horror survival game on Roblox, by developing and maintaining gameplay systems using Roblox Studio and Luau, implementing new features and mechanics based on the project's requirements, and assisting with improving existing systems, fixing bugs and resolving technical issues. They will work alongside other members of the development team to ensure systems integrate correctly, while helping develop and refine survival, crafting, exploration, progression and base-building mechanics. The role will also involve testing new features, identifying issues before release, and optimising scripts and systems to maintain a smooth player experience across supported devices. The successful candidate will be expected to follow the project's existing development standards, structure and technical requirements, communicate progress and relevant issues clearly, take ownership of assigned tasks and complete them within agreed timeframes. They should be willing to learn, adapt and take on additional responsibilities as the project develops, while contributing constructive ideas that can improve gameplay, player experience and the overall quality of Appley. A professional, reliable and committed approach to all assigned work is expected.

Requirements

An interest in the role and a willingness to contribute consistently to the team. Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks to an appropriate standard. Good communication and teamwork skills. Reliable, punctual and able to meet agreed deadlines. Willingness to learn, take feedback and improve throughout the role. Ability to follow instructions, company procedures and project requirements. Professional and respectful attitude when working with other team members. Ability to commit to the agreed part-time working hours. The role begins with a three-week probationary period to assess suitability, reliability, quality of work and overall fit within the team. If the probationary period is successfully completed, the candidate may continue in the role as a paid team member, with payment for the applicable month's work made at the end of the month, subject to the agreed employment terms and applicable UK tax and employment requirements.
